As can be seen from the brief history above mobile towers have developed as a result of both conflict and legislation. These forces have highlighted the benefits of lightness and flexibility that mobile towers can offer along with an ability to evolve in design as demands for operator safety have increased. Undoubtedly there will be continuing changes in legislation and already on the horizon is a revision of EN1004…
It could also be argued that, despite continued opposition from the traditional scaffolding lobby, the use of aluminium towers has burgeoned over the past 70 years. Ironically, they do not often (although, sometimes, in expert hands) challenge for the same jobs but they have earned massive success by providing tradesmen of almost every discipline fast, simple, cost effective and, above all, safe access for everyday work. As a result, their widespread use could be argued to have contributed more to the reduction of falls from height than any other single access innovation!
