Tower safety briefing at 65 Davies Street

24/03/2023 - PASMA trained operatives know how to work safely with mobile access towers, but they’ll always benefit from a timely reminder before heading out to work. That’s exactly what happened at 65 Davies Street recently, when AT Jones Group invited Pete Harley from STS Access to give a toolbox talk to their team. AT Jones has 21 operatives who are using BoSS Clima towers to reach the required height for dry lining walls and suspended ceilings at the new 7-storey office building in Mayfair, which is currently under construction. The project is managed by Multiplex.

Toolbox talk

During the session, Pete addressed common mistakes that can happen when building towers and the importance of following your training. He covered: > The need to follow user instructions exactly > The dangers of making unauthorised adaptions to a tower > An operative’s responsibilities under the Work at Height Regulations > The importance of inspecting towers properly AT Jones was among the first companies to roll out TowerSure, the inspection system from PASMA, to their workforce. Their HSQE Manager, Sam Beesley spoke at PASMA Conference 2022 about how it’s improved safety on their sites and reduced the number of mistakes being made during the build process. Inviting an industry expert to deliver a toolbox talk was another way for them to support their team to work safely at height.

Safety first

We caught up with Pete after his visit and he told us: “It’s a pleasure to work with a forward-thinking contractor like AT Jones Group who are taking positive action to help their workers stay safe around towers. The toolbox talk worked well because it keeps tower safety messages fresh and stops unsafe behaviours creeping in after training.” Pete is the owner of STS Access, who are PASMA hirer/dealer and hire & assembly members. If your team could use a boost of tower safety knowledge, contact a local PASMA member and ask how they can help.
