In the evening…

The PASMA members’ mixer

As the sun goes down, we’ll see you in the rooftop bar for a relaxed evening of pizza, drinks and stunning views over the River Clyde. The night begins with a civic reception, kindly hosted by the Lord Provost and Glasgow City Council.

After that, our chairman Steve Booker takes the reins for an informal night of good conversation and great company. No table plan, no dress code – just good times.

Did you know? Lord Provost is the Scottish term for Lord Mayor. They are the civic head of the council and also the Lord Lieutenant (the King’s representative) in Glasgow.

FAQs

The AMM and member conference will take place in the Meeting Academy at the SEC Centre, which is part of the Scottish Event Campus (SEC). Address: Exhibition Way, Glasgow, G3 8YW.

That evening, we’ll move to the Radisson RED Glasgow for the members’ mixer, held in the rooftop Red Sky Bar. The following day’s meetings and workshops will also take place at the hotel. Address: 25 Tunnel Street, Finnieston Quay, Glasgow, G3 8HL.

These two venues are just a short walk (0.3 miles) away from each other.

For instructors attending the CPD event, PASMA will provide a free coach to take you from the Radisson RED to Highreach Training in Hillington, and back again in time for lunch. We encourage you to use this service. For anyone making their own way there, the address is: Unit 27 Northpoint, 30 Edison Street, Hillington, Glasgow, G52 4JW.

We chose our conference venues with convenience and sustainability in mind. Both the SEC and Radisson RED are easily accessible by public transport, but also have parking for those who need it. There's a lot of very helpful travel information on the SEC website and Visit Glasgow website and we’ve also included general travel advice below, organised by mode of transport.

Train:

If you travel to Glasgow by train, you’ll probably arrive at either Central or Queen Street. From there, it’s an easy journey to Exhibition Centre, the SEC’s own dedicated railway station. There are direct trains from Central, but if you’re coming from Queen Street, you’ll make a change at Partick (although you might find it quicker to walk to Central). More info >>

Our conference delegates are entitled to a great value Conference Rover ticket, which lets you travel around the city centre of Glasgow by rail for five days for just £5. Simply show your PASMA booking confirmation email at the station.

Bus:

Buses leave from Buchanan Bus Station in the city centre. The X19 Stagecoach service stops on Finnieston Street, which is a few minutes’ walk to the SEC and Radisson RED. Use Traveline Scotland to plan your journey or visit the SEC website for more info. Also, First Bus has a handy guide to bus travel around the SEC Centre.

Walk:

The venue is around 1.5 miles from Central Station. If we’re enjoying that fabulous weather Glasgow is famous for, it’s not a bad riverside walk for those who are able. You could even catch some of the City Centre Mural Trail artworks on your way! More info >>

Bike:

The venue is located on National Cycle Route 75, which runs alongside the River Clyde. There is a Nextbike station outside the SEC, as well as a covered cycle rack. More info >>

Air:

The nearest airport is Glasgow Airport. If you’re flying into town, you can take a bus or taxi to your destination. More info >>

Taxi:

Car:

The SEC is conveniently located for drivers, just off the M8 motorway. We recommend you take note of:

  • The car parking arrangements at the venue (see below)
  • The location of the Glasgow’s Low Emission Zone – the venues are outside the zone, but you should keep it in mind when planning your route, if your vehicle does not meet the emissions requirements
  • The availability of electric vehicle charging points (you might find the ChargePlace Scotland website helpful for this)

More info on arriving by car >>

Our team took part in a UN sustainable development goals workshop, designed to help us identify ways to ensure our event is planned as sustainably as possible. We've chosen to focus on the following goals this year:

  1. Responsible consumption and production: we encourage delegates to bring their own eco-friendly water bottle, have cut out printed paperwork where possible and chosen venues with recycling and green policies in place
  2. Good health and wellbeing: for example, we've shared information on fitness and wellbeing activities and are committed to serving healthy and nutritious food during conference hours
  3. Climate action: we encourage delegates to use sustainable modes of travel, like walking or cycling, and will utilise reusable materials wherever possible
  4. Quality education: the aim of our conference is to share quality information that our members will in turn go onto share with their customers and delegates

Thanks to the Glasgow Convention Bureau for facilitating this workshop

We're so excited you can join us! You'll be very welcome here.

Be aware that most visitors travelling to the UK need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) or a visa.

The ETA is being introduced in several stages for different nationalities.

It's your responsibility to ensure you have your own correct authorisation to enter the UK.

You may find these resources useful:

There’s a 24-hour gym in the Radisson RED Glasgow, which is open for guests. If you’re looking for something more, the Nuffield Glasgow Central Fitness and Wellbeing Gym is few minutes’ walk away from the hotel – you might be able to get a day pass.

The Clyde Walkway runs along the river, which is right beside the conference venue. It’s a good-quality path that is popular with runners, walkers and cyclists.

The path begins near the Riverside Museum and continues for 40 miles, and there are various bridges that criss-cross the water, so it’s easy to plan your own route of whatever distance you prefer. From the hotel, start by heading west to the Riverside Museum or east to Glasgow Green and take it from there. On your way, look out for the Finnieston Crane, La Pasionara, the Tall Ship Glenlee and lots of street art.

Alternatively, head up to Kelvingrove Park to join the Kelvin Walkway, which will take you to the Botanic Gardens and beyond. If you make it all the way to Dawsholm Park, you might even see some highland cows.

The nearest parkrun is Elder Park or Victoria Park.

There’s a pool at the Nuffield Glasgow Central Fitness and Wellbeing Gym, which is is few minutes’ walk away from the hotel – you might be able to get a day pass. There’s a public pool at Glasgow Club Scotstoun, which is a few miles from the hotel.

Unfortunately, there is no swimming pool at the Radisson RED Glasgow.

If you fancy extending your stay in Glasgow, there are plenty of options for making a weekend of it. You don’t even need to venture far, because the conference takes place in the Scottish Event Campus, which has lots of attractions nearby.

In and around the event campus

Stroll across the Millennium Bridge and you’ll find yourself at the Glasgow Science Centre. Or why not head over to the Riverside Museum, an award-winning transport and technology museum, which has the Tall Ship Glenlee on the same site. It’s just over a mile from the Radisson RED and to get there you’ll pass the colourful Clydeside Expressway Mural Wall. While you’re there – maybe you fancy a quick powerboat ride down the river?

On the way back, whisky fans will want to stop at the Clydeside Distillery.

Looking for evening entertainment? At the Ovo Hydro, Monster Jam Ramped Up! takes place at the weekend, while Eric Idle performs at the SEC Armadillo. You’re also close to Golf Fang, which has a crazy golf course and cocktail bar.

The West End

If you want to venture slightly further out, we recommend exploring the West End, where you’ll find attractions like Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, home of Sir Roger the elephant and Salvador Dali’s Christ of St John of the Cross. Try to be there for the daily organ recital, which takes place at 1pm Monday – Saturday and 3pm on Sundays.

Nearby, there are parks like Kelvingrove and the Botanic Gardens and plenty of bars, coffee shops and restaurants (try Finnieston, Hyndland Street or Ashton Lane or for traditional Scottish experience try The Ben Nevis or Dram!). For a fun lunchtime activity, have a look at A Play, A Pie and a Pint at Oran Mor.

Glasgow City Centre

In the City Centre, you’ll find attractions like the Glasgow Central Station tour (book well in advance!), National Piping Centre and city centre mural trail. For shopping, head to Buchanan Street. For whisky, try the Pot Still.

On the quirkier side, check out the longest bar in Europe, Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Willow Tea Rooms, the tallest cinema in the world and local legend the Duke of Wellington, who has been wearing a traffic cone hat for decades.

Recommendation: do the Glasgow Central Station tour, have a glass of something fizzy at Champagne Central in the voco Glasgow Central Hotel, then enjoy dinner at Alston Bar & Beef - a whole day out without leaving the railway station!

The Southside

South of the river you'll find Pollock Country Park, home to a fold of highland cattle as well as the world-class Burrel Collection. Also in the area is the Scottish Football Museum, Charles Rennie Mackintosh-designed House for an Art Lover and the Glasgow Climbing Centre, which is situated in an old church and has a great cafe on the upper level.

You could also drop into the Solange Pessoa exhibition at the Tramway, get a birds' eye view of Glasgow from Queen Mary's Seat in Cathkin Braes Country Park or find somewhere on Pollockshaws Road for brunch.

East End

At the weekend, visit the Barras Market - a unique Glasgow institution that's been on the go for over a century. There are antiques, bargains and banter galore, as well as trendy street food - including TikTok favourites Ho Lee Fook and the Crumbleologist.

You could also check out the Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre, take a stroll round Glasgow Green and stop for a pint at WEST Brewery or pop into Coia's Cafe for a meal.

Recommendation: a nice afternoon could involve a visit to Glasgow Cathedral, a walk round the atmospheric Necropolis and then, for a special occasion, dinner at nearby Celentano's

Across the city

A few tips:

  • Glasgow is celebrating its 850th anniversary this year, so have a look at the event listings for that
  • Doors Open Day takes place the weekend after our conference, giving visitors a peek inside buildings and spaces that are normally closed to the public
  • Check theatre and music listings – there’s always lots going on!
  • The Visit Glasgow website lists lots of things to do
  • What else is on? Check out event listings for the days around our conference

Remember, our conference delegates are entitled to a great value Conference Rover ticket, which lets you travel around the city centre of Glasgow by rail for five days for just £5. Simply show your PASMA booking confirmation email at the station.

Glasgow also has a subway service.

Further afield

From Glasgow, you can get to Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park in less than an hour. Some suggestions for your itinerary, all on the banks of the loch:

  • Climb Conic Hill for gorgeous views over the water, then enjoy a well-deserved meal at the Oak Tree Inn in Balmaha
  • Pop over to Inchmurrin Island for lovely walks, quiet beaches and delicious food – the restaurant owners will pick you up from the mainland in their boat
  • Visit the picturesque conservation village of Luss, where Scottish soap ‘Take the High Road’ was filmed in the 80s and 90s
  • Enjoy some luxury at the five-star Cameron House – a round of golf, a relaxing spa day, jet skiing or just chilling out, it’s up to you
