New standard for small mobile access towers in development

20/02/2023 The image above shows an illustration of a low-height mobile working platform. The first draft has been completed of a new European standard for low-height mobile working platforms (LHMWPs) which covers platforms where the height is limited by the design to a maximum 2 metres. The new standard will ensure that there are minimum safety requirements in place specifically for these products, which aren’t covered by any existing standards. This will make it simpler for anyone buying or hiring one to ensure it’s safe and reliable. The standard is being created by a group within the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) known as Technical Committee 53 Working Group 4, a team of tower experts convened by Don Aers, PASMA's Technical Director. The draft is currently subject to an internal enquiry period, after which revisions may be required. It is not expected to be published until late 2024 at the earliest, and the name of the standard is still to be confirmed.
