Highlights from Tower Week 6-12 March 2022

8/8/22 - Tower Week was established by PASMA to bring the whole industry together - from manufacturers to training instructors to operatives - to promote positive stories, images and messages about mobile access towers, prefabricated tower scaffolds and low level work platforms. The event is marked all over the world. It’s an opportunity for all those who work with towers to celebrate their commitment to safety and all the exciting things that towers have helped them achieve. And boy did we celebrate in 2022! This year’s event saw many of our members taking part through a variety of communication channels. They recorded bitesize safety videos, snapped photos, shared top tips, ran training courses, attended webinars and even built towers made of spaghetti and marshmallows! Here's a quick round-up of the highlights.

Introducing TowerSure

Tower Week 2022 saw 662 people attend PASMA’s webinar on "The smarter way to manage tower inspections" >> The smarter way to manage tower inspections Hosted by Richard Fairfield (E.T. Hire), the webinar covered the when, why, who and how of inspecting towers. Attendees learned which workers are considered competent to inspect towers and how often they should do it. They were introduced to PASMA’s new approved checklist for inspecting a mobile access tower and taken through it by Craig Gorton (freelance PASMA instructor) step-by-step. They also heard about the requirements for recording an inspection from our technical director, Don Aers. Then, they were shown a smarter way to manage it all. Attendees were invited to trial a brand-new tool from PASMA which means that, for the first time, you can be sure that all towers under your control are assembled correctly and that inspections are thorough and recorded properly, as per the Work at Height Regulations 2005. This section included a first-hand account from Sam Beesley (AT Jones) who has been part of a pilot trial. TowerSure is now available for trial and will get its official launch at PASMA Conference on 29 September 2022 at the Delta by Marriott Nottingham Belfry Hotel, England.

PASMA instructors record bitesize safety videos

In what has become an annual tradition, PASMA instructors recorded six new bitesize safety videos especially for Tower Week, on a variety of important tower-related topics: > How do you stop yourself falling while assembling a tower? > How do you climb a tower? > How do you choose a safe podium? > Follow the bracing pattern. > How to stabilise a mobile access tower (and keep it that way) > What’s the maximum distance allowed between tower platforms? Thanks to Michael Pitt, Craig Gorton, Steve Booker, Paul Gilbert, Michael Henry and Mat Gray for recording these videos. We’ve built up quite a collection of bitesize safety videos over the years!

Tower Week in the UAE

Well done to PASMA manufacturer, training and hirer/dealer members Al Laith, Ascend and Safelift who combined forces to host a Tower Week event in the UAE. They spent the morning sharing good practices, updating attendees on local requirements and discussing solutions to local challenges. Training instructors were also on hand to conduct demonstrations of certified equipment made locally as well as imported. Thank you to JSP for providing the venue for this important event. #TowerWeek in the UAE
