31/07/24 - PASMA instructors attend POP UP Products CPD day at Highreach Training Services

POP UP Products hosts CPD day at Highreach Training Services

POP UP Products recently hosted a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) day for PASMA instructors at Highreach Training Services' newly opened facility in Glasgow on 14 June. It was a full house at this event, with 12 PASMA instructors attending for an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with POP UP towers, including the SQ Advance Guardrail, MiTOWER, and MiTOWER+.

Engaging sessions and practical training

The CPD day provided PASMA instructors with a valuable learning experience. They learned about POP UP’s manufacturing process, the rigorous testing the products undergo, and received hands-on training in building SQ Advance Guardrail, MiTOWER, and MiTOWER+. Chris Smith from PASMA was also present. The day started with an introduction to the event's purpose, emphasising the importance of staying current with industry advancements before attendees were split into two groups. Ben Sly from POP UP Products led one group in practical sessions, focusing on building MiTOWER, Eiger250 3T, and 500 AGR. These exercises allowed instructors to directly engage with the products, enhancing their understanding of the towers' assembly and safety features. At the same time, Chris Smith shared news on TowerSure and delivered the emergency and rescue planning workshop. This session aimed to equip instructors with the knowledge to deliver effective toolbox talks on tower safety and rescue scenarios.

Positive feedback and future opportunities

The practical sessions were the highlight of the day, providing instructors with crucial hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of industry products. Ben Sly, sales director of POP UP Products, commented, "POP UP Products' commitment to the industry means constantly updating the skills and knowledge of our towers users. As a PASMA manufacturer we feel a responsibility to support instructors with practical skills and insights to help them get familiar with our products and differences within our brand ranges. This is why hosting the CPD day with our partner Highreach Training Services was essential as it presented a great opportunity." Tony Warren, director at Highreach Training Services, expressed his satisfaction with hosting the event: "We were delighted to host 12 PASMA instructors at the CPD day held at our new training centre in Hillington. The event provided instructors with the opportunity to learn about POP UP Products' manufacturing process and product testing, and to get hands-on experience with the products themselves. We do a lot of PASMA training here so we had plenty of space for building towers, making it an ideal venue for this CPD event.” James Graham from Onestop Access Equipment praised the event, saying, "Thank you for today. It was really informative, and the smaller groups worked better than larger groups." John Gallagher from Access Services Scotland echoed this sentiment, adding, "Put on a great day, well done. Always a pleasure." This positive feedback from instructors echoed the effectiveness of staying up to date and the value of hands-on learning.

Setting a precedent for future training days

The CPD day hosted by POP UP Products offered PASMA instructors a chance to deepen their knowledge, enhance their teaching skills, and engage directly with the manufacturer. This event set a precedent for future CPD days, highlighting the importance of practical, hands-on learning and close collaboration with manufacturers. Chris Smith concluded the day by saying, "CPD days are essential for instructors to keep their tower knowledge up-to-date and maintain the high standards of PASMA training. The growing interest in these CPD opportunities has shown just how valuable they are and why we need more of them. We are eager to work with our members to organise more CPD opportunities. If any centres connected with manufacturers are willing to host, please let me know. Let's create more of these opportunities to support our instructors and uphold the high standards of PASMA training." Special thanks go to Ben Sly and Tony Warren, and to all the PASMA instructors who attended, including Ramon Aramayo, Jim Palmer, Andrew Davie, James Graham, Ross Hugh, Mike Hardy, Stewart Vandal, Kenneth Norris, John Gallagher, Gemma Smith, Lawrence Johnson, and Gordon Mullen.
