PASMA hosts first ASEAN Symposium
28/03/2024 – On 8 March, PASMA's Safety at Height Advisory Panel hosted the association’s first ASEAN Symposium, in Singapore.
The event was opened by Desmond Ong, President of the Access Solution Industry Association (ASIA) and owner of Galmon, PASMA’s first member in the region. He explained the longstanding relationship between ASIA and PASMA, including their renewed memorandum of understanding, as well as recounting Galmon's PASMA journey.
Over 60 delegates gathered at the Building and Construction Authority's BCA Academy building, in Singapore, to hear the latest insights and guidance on tower safety. Highlights included:
Earlier this month, six delegates from Southeast Asian countries completed their upskilling in advanced tower configurations in Singapore. They are now qualified to provide PASMA's advanced courses course in the region.
The upskilling included stepped, linked, bridge, cantilever and large deck structures converted to BS 1139-6 by a local member using PASMA's grant.
Not only did all delegates pass with flying colours, but they also represent the first group of international instructors to achieve all 5 advanced qualifications. As a bonus, their stepped and bridge tower builds were showcased at PASMA's ASEAN Symposium!
Special mentions
Delegate Agnes Deelen-Yong was the first international female instructor to achieve these advanced instructor modules and only the second female PASMA instructor to achieve them all. Delegate Edward Hong Huat, 65, also deserves a mention for his outstanding achievement.
