This year, PASMA turns 50. And if five decades of tower safety isn’t worth celebrating,
we don’t know what is. That’s why we’re hosting a 50th anniversary celebration –
conference & gala dinner event on 12 September 2024 at the Royal Lancaster London.
In 2024 we look back to 1974: run by volunteer industry members at the time,
PASMA was taking our very first steps; Health and Safety legislation had just been
enacted (including the creation of the HSE) following EU accession the previous year;
meanwhile, ABBA hit the charts with the Eurovision-winning song Waterloo;
and Kate Moss, Leonardo DiCaprio and Bear Grylls had all just been born!
There’s a lot of history to our journey. In the last half century, PASMA and our
members have paved the way for progress on safety standards, training and
certification for the tower industry. From the very first committee meeting
to the introduction of training itself, the association has played
a historic role in championing working at height safety.
You can find more about that history on our archive page listed below,
as well as our 50th anniversary graphics kit and the chance to nominate
someone for receiving special recognition at our anniversary event!
Over 200 delegates got together to celebrate 50 years of advancing tower safety – and what a day (and night) it was!

Steve Booker - Chairman, PASMA; Managing Director, Kentec Training
Our host for this afternoon is Steve Booker, managing director of Kentec Training Ltd.
A proud family business, Kentec has been a PASMA member for 21 years, delivering high quality training across Kent and the South East. During that time Steve has volunteered his time and expertise to many PASMA projects.
After joining the training committee in 2009, he became a lead instructor and served two terms as chair of the committee.
As a member of the PASMA council since 2015, Steve has helped shape the future of the association. Today, he serves as the chairman, leading with the same passion and commitment that has defined his journey so far.
The sensationally funny magician Ben Hanlin returns to host PASMA’s 50th anniversary black tie gala dinner, following his crowd-pleasing performance at our 2023 annual members’ meeting.
Known for his extraordinary illusions and engaging stage presence, he has captivated audiences worldwide. First rising to fame with his ITV2 show Tricked, where he amazed celebrities and the public with mind-blowing magic pranks, Ben has since taken his magic to international stages, including appearances on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Celebrity Juice and Amazon Prime spots.
His talents extend beyond magic; he was a semi-finalist on ITV’s Dancing on Ice, showcasing his versatility and charm. He’s recently given his very first TEDx talk and appeared on the popular Channel 4 show Countdown. With over 1.4 million followers on TikTok alone and more than 100 TV appearances, Ben continues to dazzle global audiences with his captivating content.
Retired Yeoman Warder Moira Cameron, who served for 15 years as a Beefeater at the Tower of London after a distinguished 22-year career in the British Army, , will share her tales from the tower – albeit a different kind of tower than we’re used to.
Holder of the Guinness World Record as the first female Beefeater, Moira has a fascinating life story: her controversial recruitment, meeting royals, world leaders and Hollywood stars, and even singing in the first-ever variety show at the Tower.
Born in Argyll, on the west coast of Scotland, Yeoman Warder Cameron has had a Beefeater gin label produced in her honour and greeted millions to the UK in her larger-than-life mural at Heathrow airport.
Her full title was Yeoman Warder of Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress the Tower of London, and Member of the Sovereign’s Body Guard of the Yeoman Guard in the Extraordinary.
The AlleyCatz have become one of the UK’s most sought-after function bands, having played all over the UK and throughout Europe.
They will leave you energised with powerhouse vocals, tight harmonies, and great musicianship. The set list stars with music from the 1970s, to leave you feeling like ABBA just hit the charts with the Eurovision-winning song Waterloo, then progresses through the decades all the way to the present day.
One of London’s best kept secrets, the 5-piece band will feature music working up through the decades, from Stevie Wonder to Bruno Mars.
Guests are expected to include:
Network with industry friends old and new
Learn from speakers with first-hand insights into the greatest achievements and ambitions in tower safety
Explore the history of towers and feel pride in the role you’ve played in advancing safety
Support a good cause: our charity of the night is No Falls Foundation, so we’ll be raising money for them and having a few laughs along the way
It’s a chance to experience 5-star service at a central London venue (try the fresh honeycomb at breakfast, straight from the hotel’s rooftop beehives, and keep your fingers crossed for a view of Hyde Park from your room)
And also, it’s going to be a lot of fun! PASMA events are always a good laugh and this year is going to be better than ever. If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s worth coming along, 2024 is the year to give it a try
A huge thanks to our sponsors for supporting PASMA and helping to make this event the highlight of the industry calendar.

The tower industry is gathering at the award-winning Royal Lancaster London with stunning views of Hyde Park, where just six years before PASMA was founded the Beatles held their Yellow Submarine film premiere after party, and where you could stay in the same room as Michael Cane’s character in The Italian Job.
At PASMA’s archive you can browse through
the timeline, documents and images of the association’s history throughout five decades.
PASMA members may responsibly use these graphics to showcase their relationship with PASMA in celebration of our anniversary.
Non-members: please contact us for permission.
We’re keen to receive nominations for giving special recognition to those who’ve contributed to PASMA and to tower safety over the decades.
