How To Become an Instructor
PASMA Instructor Criteria All applications for Instructors will be processed and assessed at the PASMA National Instructor's All candidates must have completed a PASMA Standard Course and provide evidence of twelve months experience. Instructor candidates are assumed to have previous experience and knowledge of mobile access towers and to be conversant with the contents of the PASMA standard training course, Operators' Code of Practice and to have undertaken prior study of these and related regulations. PASMA Instructor training is not intended for candidates with little or no experience. Training and assessment will be in four key skill areas which will be modular, and will be followed by a mandatory mentoring module, in which the novice Instructor will be under the mentorship and tutelage of a Lead Instructor. The modules are as follows: 1. Instructional Techniques - a two day module designed to conform to the requirements of Lifelong Learning [Accreditation for prior learning is permitted in this module, provided the candidate can provide objective evidence that it satisfies PASMA's minimum requirement] 2. Health & Safety - a one day module designed to ensure delegates are fully conversant with legislation and regulations which impact on the safe use of mobile access towers, including the implementation of the Temporary Work at Height Directive. (Wednesday) [Accreditation for prior learning is permitted in this module, provided the candidate can provide objective evidence that it satisfies PASMA's minimum requirement. However, all Instructor candidates will be subject to assessment to ensure a thorough understanding of work at height issues.] 3. Mobile Access Tower Industry Specific - a one day module self-accredited by PASMA designed to ensure delegates are fully conversant and knowledgeable of best practice for mobile access towers and their applications. (Thursday) [There is no accreditation for prior learning, this module is mandatory for all Instructor candidates] 4. PASMA Training Scheme - a half day module to introduce PASMA's Training Scheme Procedures and to equip the delegate to operate within its national standards for training delivery. (Friday) [There is no accreditation for prior learning, this module is mandatory for all Instructor candidates] 5. Mentored Module – consists of a basic mentoring programme of three day sessions, in which the novice instructor will take charge of, on the first day, the theory and, on the second day, the practical session of the PASMA standard training course. On the third day, the novice instructor will deliver a complete PASMA standard course. All sessions will be undertaken under the mentorship and tutelage of a PASMA Lead Instructor. [Further mentoring may be necessary at the end of the basic module, at which time the novice instructor will have the opportunity to complete the extended programme under the direction of an alternative Lead Instructor, if they so wish]. On successful completion of this module, the novice instructor will be approved as a PASMA Instructor.
